Westover, MD – Somerset County Public Schools (SCPS) announces a revision to the 2025–2026 academic calendar following approval by the Somerset County Board of Education at its March 24, 2026 meeting.
The calendar adjustment addresses three inclement weather closure days on February 23, 24, and 25, 2026, during which widespread power and internet outages made it infeasible to implement virtual instruction.
To account for the loss of three instructional days and remain in compliance with state requirements, SCPS has implemented the following changes:
Tuesday, April 7, 2026 will now be an instructional day for students instead of the previously scheduled professional development day for staff.
Two additional instructional days have been added to the end of the school year on June 16 and 17, making the last day of school for students now scheduled for Wednesday, June 17, 2026
SCPS recognizes that the conversion of April 7 to an instructional day comes with limited notice and may impact previously scheduled plans. We sincerely appreciate the flexibility and understanding of our students, families, and staff as we make these necessary adjustments to support instructional continuity.
