holiday greetings and winter planning update from superintendent Bromwell

Dear Families, Staff and Community,

As we approach the holiday season, I want to extend my warmest wishes to our Somerset County Public Schools families, students, and staff. I hope this time brings you peace, joy, and meaningful moments with those you care about most.

Winter break is an important opportunity to rest and recharge. When we return on January 5, we will enter a critical stretch of the school year, with 66 instructional days before state testing begins in the spring. Regular attendance during this time will be essential to maintaining academic momentum, and families can expect guidance from schools on ways to support their students' academic success.

Somerset County Public Schools has now used all three designated makeup days for this school year. As a result, when inclement weather creates unsafe conditions for in-person learning, SCPS will implement virtual instructional days whenever feasible. To support continuity of instruction, school-issued devices were sent home for winter break in case weather impacts our return. Families are encouraged to keep devices and chargers accessible, monitor communications for updates, and ensure devices are returned when students resume in-person learning.

Since joining SCPS, I have met with each of our principals and reviewed their school improvement plans. These conversations have focused on identifying strengths, addressing needs, and ensuring we are providing the right supports to help every student succeed. In addition, our team continues its work on the FY27 budget, with a focus on aligning our organizational structure for both efficiency and compliance with the Blueprint’s funding framework.

Looking ahead, we are exploring expanded graduation pathways under the Blueprint, including Advanced Placement, dual enrollment, and Career and Technical Education opportunities to better prepare students for college and careers.

Thank you for your continued partnership and commitment to our students. I wish you a safe, restful, and joyful holiday season, and I look forward to welcoming everyone back in January.

Warm regards,

W. David Bromwell
Interim Superintendent
